How do I model an Induction Generator on PTW?

Category: Component Data Entry-Generator-Induction Generator

Answer: Enter a standard generator into your project. Under the Initial Operating Conditions on the Synchronous Generator subview, schedule the generator as “kW & kVAR (PQ)”. Enter positive kW and negative kVAR.

Notes: Induction Generators (a.k.a. Asynchronous Generators) produce P (watts) and absorb Q (VARs). They can me made by overspeeding an induction motor by twice the slip. So if your 1800 rpm induction motor runs at 1725 rpm, by overspeeding it to 1875 you’ll turn it into an induction generator.
